Brazilian Wax- Skye Rose

I get to learn about Brazilian wax about 5-6 years ago at Strip Ministry of Waxing at The Curve when I went there for upper lip waxing. I did not ask the person about it, instead I went home and google about "Brazilian wax" and was shocked to find out that: PEOPLE DO WAX THEIR PRIVATE PARTS!

How did they do it?
Isn't it painful?
Oh yucks, you have to flash your private part to a stranger?
oh and the stranger will then touch your private part and remove the "bush"?!

Nop, I don't get the idea at all.

Back in September 2014, I decided to FINALLY try out Brazilian wax and search for it on Groupon and I found Skye Rose. I bought 2 Brazilian waxes for only $45! After my first experience, I told my roommate about it as we need to get ready for our "beach moment" at Cancun, Mexico. After our first time, we both agreed that it was actually not that scary, and the experience and service provided by Skye is great!

From there, we purchased a package of 5 for $75, which has no time limit for it. Do the simple math, it's only $15 for one time. STEAL!

These pictures are taken during my final waxing with Skye. I asked her if I can blog about my waxing experience with her and she agreed. *hooray*

Skye Rose's shop is located at South Wabash, Chicago. It's a cozy unit with 2 rooms.

Usually, all the "clean and clear" work are done in this room.

A certified and licensed aesthetician she is.

Pricing and promotions for Summer 2015. If you are in her mailing list, she would send out great deals through there.

She is Skye, taking her job seriously.

Skye uses Gigi Milk Chocolate Creme Wax for all her clients. If you are new to this place, she would definitely ask you if are allergic to chocolate. My reaction was: wait, there's people allergic to chocolate?

Her answer was: yes some people do.
If there's any unpleasant reaction when you eat chocolate, then you are most probably allergic to chocolate.

Skye makes me feel so comfortable during my first wax with her. That is why I went back for more. Sometimes people do not just seek for promotions and deals, if the service is not good, people would rather pay for more for a pleasant environment and service.

LOL, this is our favorite picture. Picture taken while Skye is waxing for my roommate.

Skye is definitely a easy-going person. She would chat with you and explain what she does so that you have an idea of what's going on. Look at her cheeky face, this is the kind of aesthetician you would want to have!

So the question now is: is it painful?

My answer: yes it is, I wouldn't lie. I was more in shock than pain when the first strip just went off. However, it is bearable. The professional knows what she is doing. Besides, the more you do it, the lesser the pain it is.

I misses the great deals and experience with Skye Rose. Now I am back in Malaysia, it's time to search for a waxing place which I am comfortable with. Questions and comments? Leave it right below or drop me an email

SNAP Hair Salon- My Unpleasant Experience

July 15, 2015

Got this awesome deal from State Street, Chicago. Sales person named JR stopped me and explained to me about this $400 worth of deal, but now only $60! With just $60, I will receive a list of deals which includes Signature Image Consultation, Soothing Scalp Massage, Deep Conditioning Treatment, Clarifying Treatment and Cut and Style. Other deals would be 50% of color service and yada yada yada...etc. Sounds amazing? Yes, I bought it.

Called JR, straight to voicemail.
Called the hair stylist- PB, didn't pick up. Left a voicemail, he returned call. Made appointment at 2pm.

So I was sooooo excited, my first hairdo, hair treatment, hair cut in the States. Imagine that.

PB: "So tell me about your hair"
Me: "It's very fine, lots of split ends...."
*touching my hair, examining*
PB: "When did you last wash your hair"
Me: "Yesterday" (naive enough for me to think that he was trying to find out if my hair is too dry or oily)
PB: "I will cut it dry"
Me: "Ok" (naive enough for me to think that he would wash my hair after the haircut)

CHOP CHOP CHOP. Very layered hair.
*Spray Spray Spray* (for he considered it as Deep Conditioning Treatment, some home remedy)
*Blow dry & start curling my hair*

So, I decided to speak up....
Me: I'm  a little confused, the voucher says it includes *taking out the voucher* scalp massage, deep conditioning, clarifying treatment...?"
PB: Yes, what I did just now was that I'm spraying on some xxxxxxx(ingredients) onto your hair, that's deep conditioning treatment.
Me: Ok, and the scalp massage....and clarifying?
PB: That we can schedule another for you to come back and do the rest, because we can't do it in a day, it's too much for the scalp.
Me: Ok. (Pretend to look fine) but I know there's no such thing.

While he's curling my hair, another customer came in around 2:50pm and waited for him.

Obviously he has no time for me as he has made another appointment with another customer an hour after me. If I were to get all the treatment, it takes 1.5 hours (as according to JR the sales person). To me, I expect it to take at least 2 hours.

I suppose if I did not question him, that would be the end of my $60 deal. Just Touch, Cut, Spray & Style.

I can always put up a smile, and pretend everything is fine. Ah, picture don't look that bad. Cutting and Styling are good, no joke.

Came back for the remaining treatments. Who makes a customer does that?

So a lady washed my hair, and PB put on some conditioner on my hair and have me sat at the steamer for about 15 minutes.

The lady washed off the conditioner, blow dry my hair. PB touch/examine my hair....and says "Good"....

THAT'S THE END OF MY DEAL.

This whole hair conditioner and steamer thing, as far as I know is known as Deep Conditioning Treatment. And the Spray Spray "treatment" he did for me during my first visit....would be...I don't know, clarifying treatment?

Cut & Style? Checked.
Signature Image Consultation? If asking how's my hair is then yes, checked.
Deep Conditioning Treatment? Checked.
Clarifying Treatment? Maybe.
Soothing Scalp Massage. No.

I wouldn't consider this as professional, for a 27 years experience of hairstylist.

Nothing good is cheap.
